I was living in Gainsborough, South East Ipswich. I went to South East Ipswich Boys' School, by Romley Road. There was a barrage balloon and a searchlight there.
One day my granny was looking after my younger brother Eddie. I went off to lessons. Mid-morning and we had to dive under our desks - there was a raid. We heard bomb noises. We went out to the playing fields, around two to three hundred of us. The bombs had just missed us.
I went home for dinner. We couldn't get into Fletcher Road. The police wouldn't let us. There was rubble. My mate Derek's house was demolished. I went round the back way. My mum was still there. Eddy and Derek were in my bed.
The police told everyone to get out. The removed an unexploded bomb. There was a big hole in the middle of road and lots of houses were hit. An old lady I spoke to that morning had been killed. I can still see clothes, and bedclothes, on the electric overhead cable.
