Names: Father of the Bride - Walter C. Caudle with his Grandsons - sons of J. M. Caudle Location: Park Road, overlooking Ferndale, Rhondda, Glamorgan WALES Date: 1951 An 'honorary' Welshman surveying his past; whilst his grandsons looked to their future. Just Another Family
The Page Boy
The Page Boy grew up and got married, and he and his wife have 5 daughters, 5 sons in law, and now 10 grandchildren. On that June day in 1951, he remarked "You look nice, Aunty...but MY Mum looks best" They would recall those memories of that June day whenever they were together; the last time being in 1999, when the (older) Page Boy and his wife were able to show their Aunt with pride, photographs of their grandchildren, and of their recent pantomime debuts, where the Page Boy was cast as a Dame.
The Flower Girl
The Flower Girl grew up and got married, and she and her husband have 2 children, 1 son in law, and 1 grandchild. The Bride would recall the actions of her Flower Girl on that June day - right up to her very last week - as her niece remarked "What's all this defetti(confetti)about the place?" whilst she pondered, and picked her nose.
The Bride's brother's sons would be mischievous that June day. The eldest would be seen opening and shutting a matchbox, no one ever knew what was inside. Even up to 1999, the nephew would never enlarge on what was hidden in that box, even when he would ring to enquire about his Aunt. His younger brother would take his Aunt dancing at the Trerhondda Chapel Hall in Ferndale in the 1960s, and would visit her in the years prior to, and in early 1999. The nieces and nephews would each in turn grow and have families of their own.
By God's grace, like a gamble on Life itself, where the odds weren't great, this Family group had survived ww2. They would face many difficulties in the years ahead, amidst a background of conflicts and war. On the field of life, the battle scars would show, and when the battle was over, they would reach a safer shore, and all find comfort in the eternal arms of the Faithful one.
This might just be a snapshot of that June day in 1951, reflecting on just another Wedding, just another family, but take a step back and just think for a moment or two, such memories as these lay claim to being told, or lost forever.
The Bride and Groom were MY parents, and I dedicate this to them with all my love.
A Rainbow of Memories
What are memories?
They are the links that encircle us
We must hold on to them fast
Memories are like a string of pearls
That reminds us of people through our past
Memories - what lies ahead? No one knows
These are the legacies we were given
By those who came before
We have a history, a link to keep
A necklace of memories, all of which are unique
A Rainbow of Memories is what I give to you
