This story was submitted to the People's War website by Plymouth Library Services on behalf of Jean Bull. The author fully understands the terms and conditions of the website.

During the war I worked in Smiths on George Street in Stonehouse. Every time the air raid siren went off, we went across to the Western Evening Herald office to shelter.

I also volunteered to help run a canteen for service men in Yealmpton. There was a Navy and Air Force camp near by.
