My first chain of shops called Chapmans were opened in St James Street and London road selling meat. I was then promoted to Devonshire Place, where all the sausages were being produced. Bellman asked me if i would work for him in London road, which I later took over. I expanded the business to George Street (where the slug and Lettuce is now!), then boundary road (where Tesco's is now!)

I had a great big car, an Austin Princess to take all the meat to the different shops when they ran out of stock!
