At last it was all over, at least in Europe and on May 8th 1945 the whole country went wild with joy. I was 15 years old and had grown up during the war years but was too young to be directly involved in the conflict and, fortunately, my family had not suffered greatly from it. However, like all of my age group, the war was the background to our lives and did much to form our characters. Now in our 70s, we have seen so many changes in the years between but we all remain at heart "The Wartime Kids".
