Having worked with the 'Special Operations'NPS
section of the Royal Corps Signals and the RAF
Pigeon section.I consigned 6 birds to a special 'OP' to be dropped by Parachute 3 weeks after 'D DAY'in occupied France, unfortunately
only one returned with his message container the contents of that message I was never able to find out. There was much secrecy about the many messages delivered by our service birds and many hundreds of human lives were saved by the bravery of 16ozs of bone and feather of the humble pigeon. A memorial to 'Animals in War' is to be erected next year as a tribute to their exceptional bravery under enemy fire.
