I was 12yrs old when the war started and when the manchester blitz. was on night after night was spent in the air raid shelter/ Some night we were in the people at no 27 the browns and some nights we were with the people from no 31 the moores, as we did not have our own shelter till after the blitz started. Night after night was spent in the cold, damp shelter, and on Christmas Eve although our house was not damaged we had no water, gas, or electricity for six weeks, well into the new year. We lived in Addison Crescent, One night we was in the Browns and Mrs Brown fell in the duck pond on her way back to the shelter. Although they were terrible times to live in it taught me how to manage things and make do in any difficulties, During the fuel shortage my children were the only ones who came home to a hot meal as my Blitz memories came back and I did what by Mum did in the wasr I used a primus stove.
