I was a propeller shaper for Hurricanes and Spitfires at a place near Addlestone in Surrey.

We were all working very long hours and after several weeks without a break we were told we could all have a Sunday off.

It was about 1 陆 miles to walk to work as the firm was not on a bus route.

Nevertheless, on the Sunday we were supposed to be off, I got out of bed and continued to walk to work.

I passed a work mate of mine who shouted across the road 鈥淲here are you going Ron?鈥 To which I replied 鈥淭o work of course.鈥

He then replied 鈥淭his Sunday we are off鈥. It then dawned on me that he was right so I turned straight round and proceeded home and went straight back to bed.
