I am to young to have witnessed the terrible blitz but thought it might be of some interest to local people.
I spoke to my parents just before they died regarding their memories of Wallasey in the war,mum in particular remembered the blitz as an exciting time but like so many others looked back and shuddered at the sights and sounds she experienced. She recalled the awful night when fhe first bombs rained down and landed on an area called Strouds Corner, and also when a string of high explosive bombs completely flattened Lancaster avenue, with huge loss of life. The kids never thought of the horrors they were seeing, mum described seeing bits of bodies lying in the street and not feeling anything at all. Perhaps because these were days they just had to get through somehow or other.
