Letter from the King

Every child in Britain got this letter from the King. It is a very lovely letter, telling us how brave we had all been. We also got a sixpence, and an orange. I really believed the King had written to ME. I really believed he had signed that piece of paper individually. I didn't know that he knew I even existed! But he must have done, because he'd written me a letter. It was SO exciting to get it.
