During the war I was able to do things that I would not have been able to do oherwise. I signed up for any course going and was able to train in areas that were not 'women's work' . I became a trained engineer and also became a mechanic whereas I would have been a typist or working in a shop which I would have hated.
After the war ended it was not so easy as I had to give up my job where I had lots of responsibility and give it to the returning soldiers.
People treated me differrently during the war as compared to afterwards. I had a lot of people working for me, both men and women, but afterwards I was expected to go back and just be at home. It was very hard until I found a way out.
