As told to Sarah, aged 7:

Hitler soon started sending over his latest weapon called the V2 or, as we called them, the Rockets. We couldn't see these coming. There was just a huge explosion causing death and desrtuction once more.

I was invited to a friend's birthday party. It took place on a Tuesday after school during March 1945. I had a lovely time with jelly and blancmange for tea which was a special treat during the war as all food was strictly rationed. The following Tuesday at about 4.45 p.m. the same bungalow where I had attended the party was completed demolished by a rocket. My auntie, on hearing where the rocket had dropped, thought the party was being held this Tuesday. She rushed up to the scene of the explosion only to be told that the party was on the previous Tuesday. I was safe and sound at home. The little boy who lived in the bungalow escaped injury. This was the very last rocket to be dropped on England on March 27th 1945 in Orpington, Kent.
