I was almost 6 when war broke out. I remember air raids and a couple of bombs falling on Grangemouth. They didn't do any damage because they landed in fields. In Clydebank things were much worse. We could hear the explosions from the west coast here in Grangemouth.
There was a shortage of teachers at Dundas School during the war. Some weeks we only went to school in the morning and other weeks we only went to school in the afternoon.
Everything was rationed. Food, shoes, cigarettes, sweets and bread were all very hard to come by. A couple of my cousins married and they had to make do with utility furniture which wasn't very luxurious.
