I was once walking along the river at Bramber with a friend (we had cycled there) when all of a sudden we were thrown to the ground by army personnel and right over us came a German plane machine gunning the area as there was manoeuvres going on (we didn’t know) so the lads saved us.
I ended up cooking supper for them. Toast-cooked cheese in a saucepan with tomatoes cut up in it — they thought it was great. The pilot baled out and was taken prisoner.
