My brother was 10 and I was 9 and we went with our school (mora road primary) to cricklewood lane station to be evacuated with our gas masks and a little hand luggage. when we arrived at bedford we were taken to the market square where there were trestle tables laid out with lemonade and biscuits. We were the last 2 children to be put on a table, and it seemed a bit crowded, so we decided to sit at a table which was not yet occupied. Unfortunately each table was destined for a particular village, which we didn't know, so we went to the wrong village, and our parents were informed after nearly a week that their children were lost. As the school did not know of our arrival. it was several days before we were found and you can imagine the sigh of relief by the school and our parents.
