My Grandfathers war
When the war began I was one and a half years old. We lived in a small house in Palmer Street. Our house was in a place near a lot of factories, mills and the shipyard so the Germans tried to drop thier bombs to stop us making guns and tanks to defend ourselfs. Many of the bombs mised thier target and hit our houses killing many poeple so mummy and daddy packed a small suitcase andpul a label withour name and address and tied it to our coats. We
were then taken to the train station with children and sent to a farm in the country. We helped the farmer feed the hens and pigs and we had a great time. Te farmer took us up to the top of a hill after the Germans had left to see Belfast in flames. When the bombing was over mummy and daddy took us home again to our house but a bomb landed quite close and blew all our windows out and part of our roof was missing. We helped Dad to fix it up.When the war ended we lit a bonfire because we beat the Germans.
