I lived in Mitcham, in Surrey, but was bombed out and evacuated to West Hanney near Wantage. I have to say I was very happy there, and didn't want to go home. In fact I still go back there to this day.

One other thing I remeber about the war years is the diet. I seemed to live on bread and dripping. The bread wasn't quite as we would recognise it now, being a fawn colour rather than either brown or white. Either way, it didn't do us any harm.
