Betty Martin鈥檚 War
Before World War Two most women worked at home,
because men were needed to fight the Germans. Women had to do the men鈥檚 work some worked in factories , some on farms, some drove buses .
My Aunty Betty joined the Royal Air Force as an Ambulance Driver, she was based in Hawarden and one of her jobs was to drive through the Bombing at Liverpool to pick up wounded soldiers off ships on the docks and carry them to hospital. This would have been very hard as there were no road signs, the roads had been bombed and if it was dark you had poor lights because of the blackout.
She was very brave and she was only the same size as me.
