William Hurt joined the airforce when he was 18 in 1935 and was promoted to the Navy and worked there until 1957 when he was 42. He was originally stationed in the Mediterrean, this was where he found that the war had started.
William's best experience of the war was when the Bismark the famous German battleship was bombed. They bombed the Bismark because Hitler bombed the best British battleship. This is when Churchill got mad with anger and ordered for the Bismark to be bombed. William's ship was chosen to bomb the famous Bismark. However, though William was an engineer he felt part of this major achievement.
Rationing did not effect William, because in the navy food was already rationed.
William thought that Britain was right to go to war as they were defending Poland. He was very keen to get envoled in the war and help to defend his country.
