At Sheerness my Dad was the sports field grounds man. All the ships that came in allowed the men to stretch their legs and have a kick about on the fields. We got this tournament going and set up teams to play each other. We had strips and everything. There were around 300 games in the season and mum washed all the shirts and socks by hand. I remember that our washing line was always full of football strips. She said that she didn鈥檛 mind as she was doing her bit.
