I was 15 when the war started. I earned 10 shillings (50p) a week making army uniforms. I regularly went missing from work to go dancing in Covent Garden where the Forces hung out. I remember being called to the office every week about my time-keeping.

When I was 20 I fell in love with a sailor, pawned his rings to buy a coat, then ran away and left him. Afterwards I met and married a soldier after a short romance.

I remember having no bathroom, going to ther public baths and shouting out "Hot water." You also did washing and ironing there.

Though there was a war, it was fun.
