During the war I lived on a farm at Fenny Bently near Ashbourne. As we were farmers it meant we were ok for food. Why sell your eggs when there's a shortage?! We had to plough up the fields so we could plant vegetables like potatoes, to help the war effort. It was the first time our fields were ploughed. My brother was at home too and we worked on the farm together. I remember the windows being blacked out. We had an evacuee from london for a while but she didn't stay with us long as she didn't take to country life.
