After the war it was recommended that city children spend some time in the country due to health concerns. I went to Pipewood camp in Staffordshire, which during the war had been a German prisoner-of-war camp. During my time at the camp I used to chat to the German POWs who were working in the surrounding fields. They were friendly, and used to get on well with all of us staying there.
