There were 3 different types of shelters, one in the house, an Anderson, and reinforced blocks in the street — that was awful as it was dirty and smelt — it was used for all sorts of things, not just as a shelter!
When we came to Nottingham from London, whenever the sirens went off we were always the first to be up, dressed and in the shelter before everyone else because she thought it was going to be like London — sirens then bombs straight away but it was like that in Nottingham. It always made my Aunts / Uncles laugh. They’d be having a cup of tea etc before going into the shelter
