My regiment was one of those T.A regiments who called up in 1939 were destined to spend many years in England in what seemed to be a "Training regiment" capacity. After our intitial " weeding out" period came the postings to overseas area's replaced by intakes from other units and "training regiments".
So the years passed and one thing that came about was visits by various groups such as " womens institutes" - " young mens christian assosiation" "NAAFI" and other other well meaning groups from the local village's, there visits were made in the summer periods when we were out in the field(at best bell tanks).
As the years passed the number of original T.A men decreased but they had adopted sayings for all occasions which became part of the " regiment language" one of these happened whenever we had a visit from one or the other of the above mentioned groups, not knowing whos van it might be the universal cry was " Y -M" upon hearing this you immediattely grabbed your mug to form a
