Lloyd was on the beach at dunkirk waiting for the chance to get off, when another german aircraft attack came in . He received three shots in the stomach, on regaining consciousness he crawled into the sea, something in the back of his mind told him this was the right thing to do. He thought later that the bullets had gone through some one else before lodging in his stomach. The next he remembered being in an ambulance, Later he was operated on by a german surgeon, and without anaesthetic. He spent the rest of the war as a prisoner of war in Germany, escape was imposible he had to work 16 hours a day on very little food. I remember being told this as a nine year old curious boy when Lloyd returned home in 1945.
