When my Taid was in the 8TH army, the Germans hit him in a truck so he had to go to the hospital in Africa. When he was in hospital with a damaged leg it was really worrying for his family not knowing if he was alive or not. My Taids brother and sister were so worried because Taid had been at war for six years without knowing anything at all. My great Nan took a mother and two daughters as evacuees that meant that it would interrupt her work. And it meant it would take more caring and they would have to have bigger ration books. It must have been really frightening for my Taids Nan and her brother hearing planes flying over the house and a lots of bombs just by the house, nearly blowing it up.
