My name is Ken chapman, I landed D-day June 6th 1944 at 7.10am on Gold Beach. "ex - sapper" of 82 assault squadron royal engineers. Our job was to clear beach obstacles, pill boxes and enemy. Left beach at 12.30pm. The first town was Bayeux, 7th June, 7.30am, two tanks, I was in the first one, enemy still in town. We left mid-morning for the town Ryes. That was my d-day.

Mr Chapman

I was very interested to read your D-Day story. Would it be possible to ask you some questions about your time in 82 Sqn, as I am interested in the 1st Assault Brigade? What were you in the AVRE? Did you know someone called Bob Seth, also in 82 (and still around!). Hope to hear from you

Paul

Dear Mr Chapman

I am writing a book about the 8th and 22nd Armoured Brigades from D ay to the 31st July 1944.

My chapter on D Day includes a fair amount of references to the part your unit played on D Day. May I ask if you would be interested in helping me to complete the account with any memories you would like to contribute?

I will be away until the 14th June but can contact you after.

Regards

Julian Shales

Dear Mr Chapman

Your unit opened the way for the 8th Armoured Brigade on D Day and was involved in some actions with them after, hence my interest even though your unit was from 79th Armoured.

I have covered your unit fairly extensively in my book but I would like to ask if you would be prepared to add your memories to events. I would be happy to send you my D Day chapter for you to read.
