This story was submitted to the People's War site by Shankill Library on behalf of Mrs Margaret Redmond nee Johnston and has been added to the website with her permission.
I lived on the Shankill during World War 2.
I remember buying blackout material for the curtains. The air-raid warden used to come round then houses to check if we were showing any lights. I also remember having to carry the gas masks to school in case we were bombed.
