The wreck of the Graf Spee was bought by a scrap dealer in an attempt to salvage her.
When Japan surrendered two Japanese Naval Officers on passage in a German U-Boat requested permission to commit suicide. Death by shooting, hara-kiri would have been dangerous in the cramped confines of a U-Boat. the U-Boat surfaced the two officers went on to the upper deck. The hatches were closed and sub dived!!
