July 5th 1941 Saturday
Have been buzzing like a bee this morning. Yesterday I found out trains to Cleethorpes. The 4.5 pm runs on Saturday so I suggested to Mother we go very soon, in fact next Saturday. I'll get two days off and go with her. The sooner the better, her foot has broken out and she needs all the rest she can get. Had a brainwave and phoned Auntie Zrena this morning. She is delighted and says they will meet us - due in 8.39 pm! What a thrill! Father falls in with the idea. The best plan with Mother is make up her mind for her, when its for her own good. Then on top of all this excitement Din phones me to say do come for the weekend - she will wait up for me until 11 pm to-night. How marvelous I do hope I can manage it. Have found out trains from L. B. I love all this on the spur of the moment! I wonder what I'm going to use for money!!! Our fare to Cleethorpes 32/6 each! Never mind so long as it is for Mother's good, bless her, she deserves it.

July 8th 1941 Tuesday
All set for Cleethorpes on Saturday when Edwin telephones me in the afternoon to say he commences leave to-morrow ! Will I be ready and go up North with him!!! Would you believe it? Am I excited or am I. Dashed down to Mr Lewis to ask him for the week off. He must have thought me crazy. Thoroughly enjoyed the joke! Stan and his Mother were at home when I arrived - all thrilled.

July 9th 1941 Wednesday
Had to wash my hair last night and dashed down to have it set this morning. Edwin arrived 11 am. Had been traveling since 7 am Decided to spend the day at home and go off early to-morrow morning.
