My sister, brother and myself were playing around by a river, running between Penzance and Newlyn on a lovely sunny morning, 01.09.42 or .43. Between playing around we watched the Minesweeper, going up & back on Mount's Bay sweeping for mies about 2 and 1/2 miles out. All of a sudden there was a tremendous bang and water shot about 100 feet above the ship. It was not long before she started sinking & the last to go under was her stern. We were all well shook up & started to make our way back home. Then we saw small motor boats coming out from Penzance & Newlyn to search for survivors, don't know if there were any. The ship was called the Royals and seven men are buried in Penzance cemetary. I have paid my respects to them many times and will never forget them. God Bless Them.
