During the war my father owned a farm in the Kent countryside and in one of the fields was stationed a searchlight crew. When they first arrived they were anxiously awaiting their food supplies.
My father would once a week queue up at the butcher in town to buy some bones. We had an Easywork cooker which cooked at high pressure. Using this we were able to reduce bones to a crumble in order that we could make good nutritious stock and plenty of extra dripping.
When the crew were still waiting for their supplies, my father got busy and cooked a good stew with vegetables and meat stock. They were most grateful.
