I was about 9 years of age when I was evacuated to a farm in Cornwall. I went with the boy who lived next door and my parents said I was to look after him because I was older. The family I stayed with was really kind and it was a marvellous place. The family had a boy, aged 7 or 8, and a girl aged about 4. I wrote to my family all the time while I was there and eventually, just before a year had passed, I went back home.
I have been back to Saint Justin Roseland farm several times since and it is still a lovely place.
