It was hard to find people to work on the farm during the war as, when they got to 18 they were signed up to fight in the war. My husband was exempt for fighting as he was too old at the time. We had Czech soldiers and their wives living in the farm. It was always really good fun and we taught them English. One of the officers used to go shooting rabbits and he had such sucess that we called him "Captain Bunny". We kept in touch and a while after the war, when we were both single, he came back to visit me and wanted to court me. I said that one good husband was enough for anyone.
