I remember listening to the radio on Sunday 3rd September 1939 at 10.30, with my grandma that we were now at war with Germany.
At the corner of the streets there were pig bins where we used to take our scraps to feed the pigs.
I remember also queuing for 2 onions and my son took them to the pig bins not realising how precious they were. I had to go and scrabble in the bin to get them back.
Bombs were dropped on Bolton when the planes were on their way back to Germany.
But the most memorable thing was the friendliness of the people.
