I was living in London when the bombing got bad, I was sent to Devon. We all went on the train. It was terrible. I was with my sister 11, and my brother 8. We had our labels on to say who we were and we carried a gas mask. When we got to Devon, all the children gathered in the village square and were designated to various houses. But we were a group of 3 and no one wanted that amount. So we were the last to be housed. No one wanted us. Then Mr and Mrs Wright (what a perfect name) took us in.

My sister, it was terrible for her because she was in charge of us. Very traumatic. Us babies didn't realise the severity of it. I missed my mum terribly; I was sitting on the step crying. Mum took us back every time the bombing lessened and back to Devon when it grew worse again.
