The unsung heroes and heroines in the second world war must surely be those kind people who opened their homes and their hearts to the evacuees, not only were school children evacuated but also their Mothers with their babies and young children, my sister in law was one of those Mothers and when her husband vistied most weekends he too was welcomed.

I too was evacuated from Chingford and subsequently met my husband and settled in Rushden.
