This story was submitted to the People鈥檚 War Website by a volunteer from Derby CSV Action Desk on behalf of Mrs Willshire and has been added with her permission. Mrs Willshire fully understands the site鈥檚 terms and conditions.

I lived in Hounslow during the war and was doing clerical work at an aircraft factory in Chiswick. We had incessant bombing and the house I lived in was damaged eight times. There were special crews who came round every day to replace windows, but we had to board up the windows on our conservatory.

The comradeship at that time was marvellous and for years I slept in a shelter in the garden.
