During the 2nd World War my late mother was a District Nurse. One day whilst on her rounds (on a bicycle dressed in uniform with nurses bag strapped on carrier) she was cycling down Bexleyheath Broadway. Suddenly a German fighter plane came behind her, and started machine gunning the Broadway, mother peddled faster and faster until a butcher standing in his shop doorway yelled out 鈥淪top you silly ***鈥. She stopped and of course the fighter flew over. Glad to say the only casualty was a milkman鈥檚 horse, which I believe recovered.
