鈥淭his story was submitted to the People鈥檚 War website by Terry Cleaver of 大象传媒 Kent and has been added to the website on behalf of Peter Fawcett with his permission and they fully understand the site鈥檚 terms and conditions.鈥

During the 2nd World War my late mother was a District Nurse. One day whilst on her rounds (on a bicycle dressed in uniform with nurses bag strapped on carrier) she was cycling down Bexleyheath Broadway. Suddenly a German fighter plane came behind her, and started machine gunning the Broadway, mother peddled faster and faster until a butcher standing in his shop doorway yelled out 鈥淪top you silly ***鈥. She stopped and of course the fighter flew over. Glad to say the only casualty was a milkman鈥檚 horse, which I believe recovered.
