During world war two he was to spend his remaining few years with the GWR factory helping young apprentices to learn the trade of being a Coppersmith. Because of his age and length of service the young men affectionately gave him the nickname of Pop or the old man. Bill Davies was to leave a lifetimes work at the GWR factory, and very reluctantly retired at the age of 65, at the end of the war.
