Dear Pamela
Thank you for the card you wrote to me. So sorry I haven't answered it before but I found it simply too much what with al my other engagements, darling, ????
Are you all quite well and having good weather? I expect you are.
As you see I haven't gone away yet, for one reason, nothing has happened about the war, and also college is opening on the eighteenth and I expect school will open as well, being in Richmond.
I have got my tunic - it's not too bad, but I look a fat twelve-year-old in it.
Are you coming home on Saturday? I shan't worry if you don't but will die of boredom!
Won't that be a shame?
I have finished the dress and crocheted round the neck and sleeves in pink also I have embroidered on the front and altogether it looks very good, mistakes and all.
Have you finished the coat yet? I bet you haven't.
But talking of babies, Vi has had a girl last Friday so it's lucky I embroidered in pink.
We are going to see it tomorrow at the nursing home.
Mr Couchman and Dad are building an air raid shelter for us both, but so far nothing has happened except a few warnings.
I met Doreen yesterday and she told me that she had row with Joan Kerridge, I think that was unusual, don't you?
She wanted me to go to the pictures with her and go down to the cricket field with her. I didn't do either.
Guess who her latest victim is, Vera Stanhope.
Do come back for your birthday. Won't it be rotten if I have to go to school on my own?
There's one thing though, we won't have old Onions worrying us at school now for she evacuated with Christine and the others, I suppose.
Richmond is not in the evacuation area so I suppose it will open as usual.
Doreen has just passed on here bike with Vera Stanhope, in case you want to know.
Joan, next door, has had the mumps and mum has had a pain in her throat so we think she might have caught it.
June is down at Waltham and every time I think of it - well - you can guess.
The Odeon at Shannon Corner is five yards out of the evacuation area so the police have ordered it to be closed for the time being and there were going to be such lovely films on there.
Isn't it funny to keep walking about with a gas mask everywhere?
They took the 85 and 92 buses off during the evacuation so we wouldn't have been able to get anywhere without the car.
Ron was called up a week ago last Friday and we went to see him last Saturday and had to wait two hours for him to get his pass signed.
They sent troops over to France yesterday but all I hope is that Ron doesn't have to go.
Well this is mum's writing paper so I mustn't use any more so I'll say 'au revoir' to you now, with my very best love.
Pat xxxx
PS Write to me soon, hurry up and come home
