During the war, my brother and I were evacuated. We were very unhappy, so my mother took us home to Hornchurch; a new home as our house had been bombed. The new house was not far from an aerodrome and my school was close to the aerodrome as well. When the aerodrome started getting bombed by Germans we spent alot of time down in the air raid shelters. This meant we did not get much schooling during that time.
One night, there was a big air raid, and we were all meant to go to our shelter but unfortunately my father had to stay in the house; because of a bad leg he could not get down the steps to the shelter. My mother was very worried about leaving my father so she decided we would all stay in the house together. My mother did not want to leave any of us on our own again, so she put all our beds together in her bedroom, and we all slept together that night. It was very frightening but my mother said if we get hit we will all be together and die together.
While we lay in bed there was a big bang near by. When we all sat up my brother had one of the curtains and wire wrapped around his neck, he was alright but very shook up.
