During the 2nd World War. My dad Sydney Tigwell, (Better known as Joe) was employed in the production of making and testing Churchill tanks.
The War Department needed to have an operations manual, so a training film was made with my Dad as the pilot and his mate Arthur Curl as the driver. As only the top half of their bodies could be seen, they were issued with a battle dress tunic, and beret of the Tank Corps.
Field Marshall Montgomery and Officials from the War Office were present at the filming.
At the conclusion of the filming Field Marshall Montgomery, shook my Dad鈥檚 and Arthur Curls hand, gave them each 20 players cigarettes, and half a crown. Thanked them for their efforts and left.
Training film for Churchill Tanks, made at Vauxhall Motors Armed by the REME at Vauxhall Motors Luton 1939 - 1945
