I was 12 years of age when the war started. I lived in Woodbridge in Suffolk throughout the war . I had seven brothers and sisters who all lived with me.

I have many memories from the war but one story sticks in my mind a little more than the others.
When the evacuees arrived in Woodbridge, I and some other people met them off the train. These evacuees were taken to local schools by coach, where cots and food were already prepared for them. I can remember how the children were distressed and how they felt very lost and alone. I felt really sorry for them and tried to help them in any way I could. My mother took in two of the evacuees, a brother and a sister. It was strange at first but then we got used to it, they stayed with us for the full length of the war. We all survived.
