My Father was in the Army Air Corp with the 8th Air Force, Second Air Division, 491st Bomb Group, 852nd Bomb Squadron, Crew #R27 stationed at North Pickenham, England and this story is in honor of him and his bravery.
This was written ny his commanding officer to his parents during WW II.
"S/Sgt. Wenskovitch 13190253 Air Force, United States Army. For heroic service in connection with military operations against the enemy from 14 March to 30 April, During the bulge in Belgium. When it seemed impossible for his ship to get away from the ten enemy fighters that were attacking them, Sgt. Wenskovitch, realizing the urgent necessity of accurate shooting, shot down six enemy fighters himself. Sgt. Wenskovitch kept on firing his guns until he had no more ammunition left and the guns were servicable no more. While firing on the enemy fighters Sgt. Wenskovitch was wounded in the left feg. He was later taken to the base hospital and treated for his serious wound. Sgt. Wenskovitch's keep sense of responsibility for his ship and his ship mates enabled him to carry out successfully a most important mission invilving the security of his ship and crew."
