My Father was in the Army Air Corp with the 8th Air Force, Second Air Division, 491st Bomb Group, 852nd Bomb Squadron, Crew #R27 stationed at North Pickenham, England and this story is in honor of him and his bravery.
This was written ny his commanding officer to his parents during WW II.

"S/Sgt. Wenskovitch 13190253 Air Force, United States Army. For heroic service in connection with military operations against the enemy from 14 March to 30 April, During the bulge in Belgium. When it seemed impossible for his ship to get away from the ten enemy fighters that were attacking them, Sgt. Wenskovitch, realizing the urgent necessity of accurate shooting, shot down six enemy fighters himself. Sgt. Wenskovitch kept on firing his guns until he had no more ammunition left and the guns were servicable no more. While firing on the enemy fighters Sgt. Wenskovitch was wounded in the left feg. He was later taken to the base hospital and treated for his serious wound. Sgt. Wenskovitch's keep sense of responsibility for his ship and his ship mates enabled him to carry out successfully a most important mission invilving the security of his ship and crew."

Message 1 - Awarded the Bronze Star

Posted on: 28 October 2003 by wtr27513

If anyone knows anything about my Father Robert C. Wenskovitch that I honored with this story please contact me with any and all information. I'm especially interested in learning more about his first B-24 Liberator being shot down over Germany and him being returned to his unit via the Belgian Underground Movement. What I mentioned in the previous sentence is all I know about the situation. My late Father never discussed his experiences in WW II and I just learned of the Bronze Star Award from my brother Johnny a few weeks ago. I've been searching for information on his Military career for the past few months and have learned a lot of information regarding his unit etc. but not much in the way of specific information.
Thanks,
Barbie
