I was born on the declaration of WW2.
My first recollection is being taken to my Grandparents house in Streatham, Londoln. The house had received full blast from a doodlebug that exploded next door and property had to be salvaged. I can remember looking up from the kitchen and seeing the sky and lloking around the kitchen there were still cups hanging on hooks that were in tact - all the rest of the crockery was destroyed. I recollect my aunt and mother picking out shards of glass from the dining table - they did not want to damage the highly polished surface.
I also remember the many enemy planes going overhead on their way to bomb Coventry.
There was also an enemy plane that was damaged and off loaded its bombs over Reading. The large shop Welsteads was destroyed but no casualties due to early closing day.
