I was just a small child, walking home from
Bourne junior school.I had just started there. It was around lunchtime and I still had
a few blocks of houses and shops to pass before i reached my home.Suddenly the air raid siren's went off and very quickly german
bombers zoomed overhead dropping their bombs.
I was terrified and did not know what best to do?I kept walking towards my home shaking like a leaf.
I was approaching a shop called The Empire Butchers in seaside, when a young man rushed out and whisked me up in his arms and told me it was far too dangerous for a little girl to be walking about while we were being bombed. He put me in a giant fridge at the back of the shop.We stood inside with the door a jar.I remember being the only child there amongst a few ladies and some carcases of animals.
My teeth would not stop chattering,it was very cold inside the enormous fridge.
I do wish i could go back and thank that kind man that day,he was,and always will be my hero.I am sure he saved my life.
