This story was submitted to the People's War site by Marcus Heald (大象传媒 Guide) on behalf of Mr. David Parker and has been added to the site with his permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions.

The three brothers shown were all involved in World War Two along with their sister, Joyce. Shown are (left to right) Mr. David Parker, Mr. Ralph Parker and Mr. Raymond Parker.

Ralph Parker was with the Dunkirk Territorial and went to Dunkirk with the 50th Northumbrian Service Corps. He was involved in the Sicily and Italy invasions and was posted to the Middle East after D Day. During the fighting at Jerusalem Corner he sustained serious injury when a land mine exploded and blew a hole in his face and forehead. He survived and after recovering from reconstructive surgery to his face and forehead is alive and well, now aged 84. The picture shows him proudly wearing his medals, including the Dunkirk medal, the one below the others. He is now a resident at the British Legion Home in Ripon.

Raymond Parker served with the Royal Signals and went to Normandy with the 8th corps. while David Parker went to the Middle East. On his return, David served with the T.A. David recalls the day he went for his medical at the medical office on Paragon Street in Hull. He says the men were all lined up with not a stitch on when they realised all the girls in the office block opposite could see them!

Joyce followed into Europe with the A.T.S. and looked after female prisoners in a P.O.W. camp. She once had to catch a group of ladies who had tried to escape by digging a tunnel. She was also present at the Neuron burg War Trials.

David would like everyone to know just how much of a hero his brother Ralph is to him. To go through what he has been through and made it all the way through the other side. Your family are extremely proud of you Ralph.
