During the capture of Miketilla, the airstrip was occupied by Japanese forces, 28 Squadron moved to the site after the Army had taken the strip (the strip area was the specialist task of the Flame Throwers). We went out to the area to find Japs scorched with the flames. Goerge Brown got to the scene to find gold teeth from the Japs. He prodded them out of their mouths and placed the teeth in a handkerchief. By this time the said area was alive with black fly. Brown was bitten and subsequently caught the dreaded "bite". He was taken back to Blight and died.
